I’ve gotten my hands on more pictures from Las Vegas. Here you go!

This is a nice picture of the Sky-screen playing in between the Golden Nugget and Binions; I believe it is currently playing Queen.

Another group photo, lean to the right!

A picture of the FTR Poker Tournament before it started, we’re getting money together for the last longer sidepot. They look awesome but they’re only $5 bills.

This was another sick view from the terrace at the nightclub in the Palms.

The first few pictures were ones that I took on my camera phone. Some of the quality was OK but what do you want for a camera phone?

A picture of JeffreyJGB from Grinderschool and FTR before the FTR SOP at the Flamingo Poker Room

Maxxscam from FTR, I was his roommate 2 years ago when I was out in Vegas.

Mcatdog before the FTR SOP at the Flamingo Poker Room

Renton from FTR/2p2, he seemed to never be happy.

I got a little smile out of Renton for this pic.

Halvsame from FTR; he was my roommate for the last 4 nights or so and was an awesome guy. He was from Norway!

Swiggidy from FTR; another nice guy who knew how to party.

My starting table at the FTR SOP, From Left to right: Renton, Tyson and Xianti (FTR Admins), Swiggidy, Halvsame, DaNutsInYoEye and Massimo (not entirely in picture).

Other pictures not taken by me:

We were watching the Lakers getting smoked in the Finals. Nobody cared but mcatdog. Yeah, that’s Coor’s Light in my hand; what’s your problem??

There’s nothing better than Coor’s Light? Damn.

Me and my massive wad of $100 bills after my $7k tournament cash Thursday Night.

We’re walking in downtown Vegas, I’m looking back for someone cool to talk to.

Apparently there is something cool is happening on the ceiling; I’m too busying looking at the person taking pictures to care.

Now I see it, Queen will be playing shortly after the intro seen in the top right corner of the picture.

Rxgrossman on the left, Nutsinho in center and me to the right trying to not touch nutsinho as he hasn’t washed his hands after peeing yet.

Group photo before we enter the club!

More sitting and waiting in Party Bus.

In case you didn’t believe me that we went to the Palm’s Playboy Club.

We’re waiting in line for the club. Am I hard to spot?

I’m bored. Notice how there aren’t any drinks yet, it seemed like we waited forever.

Lots of mixers but still no drinks! Where are the drinks?!?!?!

Yay drinks! Johnny Walker Black Baby!!!

There I am! Notice the level of scotch in my glass, it was getting low.

Our awesome view from the booths in the club. It was pretty spectacular.

I’m just going to peak my head into this shot. Whats going on over here?

We’re out of booze and I’ve switched to Coke.

Still Coke, I have no idea WTF is all over my shirt; this is the first time I’ve noticed it. It MIGHT be scotch but I hope not.

Booze is gone I think. I hope I’m not doing the robot.

Taking photos of people in-dance never turn out great. This is pre-spill so I’m still drinking scotch.

My backside is my good side.

Taxi line outside the club; can you tell who the drunk one is (hint its not me!)?

The reverse photo from one I took earlier playing poker on Saturday. Nutsinho is on my right in the photo and zook to my left, neither were laughing at my (bad) jokes.

What it would look like if you were sitting right across from me. Corona w/ lime ftw.

Stop taking my picture damnit!!

Again, you can stop any time. I’m holding my profit in my hand ($19 lol).

Isn’t this the same picture? I don’t know, who cares I’ll still put it up.

Day 13: Back in Champaign!!

I get up around 7 am Vegas time and get ready to go; Halvsame follows me downstairs so he can switch the room to his name. I hop in a cab and head to the airport; I arrive at 8 am and my plane leaves at 10.

I’m not used to having to wait in line outside the airport to check my baggage, but it all worked out fairly smoothly. I was able to get a window seat near the front of the plane (is that good?). Once your inside the airport you have to take the tram to the D gate, I still haven’t had anything to eat yet but there are a ton of little restaurants inside the airport. I ate at some ‘Rose’s Cafe’ the last time I was out there, it is a knock-off of a ‘country style’ drive-thru and the food there is overpriced but still OK. I ordered their version of an Egg McMuffin and a bottle of water ($12 in total…) and headed to the gate with a good hour until boarding time.

I figured I had a good 30 minutes of battery life on my laptop and since there is free wi-fi at the airport I could pass some time doing that. After starting the laptop I was down to 85% of the initial battery life and I knew it wasn’t going to be long. 10 Minutes went by and I had only dropped 16% of battery life, I figured I might actually make it to boarding time. Not 5 minutes later I go from 65% to 0% and my laptop shuts down. Nooo!!! So much for that, I still have 30 minutes to boarding what the hell should I do?

I wasted most of the time staring at people just standing on the moving walkway on the airport. I always wondered why people stand on that instead of just walk, as it is quicker to walk off the walkway than stand on it but even quicker still to walk on the walkway.

I board the plane and I run good in life as that is 2x in a row I didn’t have someone sit directly next to me; it is so much more comfortable to not have someone right next to you it is awesome. At least, it would have been comfortable had the plane not been 50 degrees inside. It was so cold! And that is saying a lot considering I tend to be warm very often. I had to keep my arms in my shirt to keep from shivering, I felt like I was 10 years old again (not awesome).

It eventually warmed up in there, although I had a theory they only had it so cold so they could sell blankets to people (because i don’t think you could get them for free). I turned on the new Gnarls Barkley CD on my phone and fell asleep; I don’t remember how the CD itself turned out to be. I kept waking up when the music turned off, I made it through Jimmy Eat World and Kanye West before we finally touched down in Champaign.

Kavin came to pick me up from the airport and I took him out to dinner at Jupiters; we ordered the Special K pizza. With a cream style sauce, it also featured Sausage, Sun-dried tomatoes, mushrooms and spinach and was pretty good. With that we also had Garlic Breadsticks AND I ordered a glass of Johnny Walker Black. The cost: $30 before tip. It’s so fucking sick how cheap that is, as that was the cost of 2 bullshit meals at the Imperial and we had a baller pizza meal; the JWB itself would have cost me $12. Afterwards, we came back to my apartment and I relaxed for the rest of the night.

Thus, this is the end of my Vegas Trip. I will stop making such long posts and will get back to the many short posts that I like so much.

Day 12: Sushi and Shopping

Halvsame and I got up relatively early again, I’d say around 11ish. We’ve been getting to bed pretty late but we were just not sleeping too well and I don’t really get it. We had plans to go eat sushi at Sushi Roku in Caesar’s Place Sunday Night at 7 pm.

What did we do all day? Absolutely nothing. After coming back from lunch at our favorite Teahouse inside the Imperial, we watch Law and Order: SVU all day until just before we have to leave. My favorite episode though was when the son of Iced T’s character was defending himself against murder; it was very interesting and was probably a season finale.

At 7 Halvsame and I meet up a few other FTR guys, they included: Spenda, Mcatdog, Swiggidy and Pocketfours. Gabe was supposed to come but he ditched us! That punk. Halvsame doesn’t eat any seafood apparently, which is kind of funny because he grew up on an island off the top coast of Norway, surrounded by the Northern Atlantic Ocean. Their exports are 1) Oil and 2) Fish (we spent a lot of time talking about Norway); how can he not like fish???

As appetizers, Swiggidy and I agreed to share a Miso-marinated Baked Cod. It was awesome!! I’d have to say it was one of the best fish dishes I’ve ever had and we debated ordering more than 1 for dinner but decided against it. After the Cod, I decided on a Shrimp Tempura w/ Asparagus Maki Roll and Toro & Jalapeno Maki Roll (Toro is a type of Tuna I believe). I was still hungry after that so Swiggidy and I decided to split a Spicy Scallop and Spicy Tuna Roll, although neither was all that spicy. My favorite of them all had to be the Tempura w/ Asparagus and my least favorite was the Spicy Scallop (really weird texture). Combined, all of this cost me $50 or so and in the end it wasn’t all that bad. Truthfully the sushi at Sushi Kame in Champaign wasn’t any worse just 1/2 the price, but the Cod was definitely worth it.

After sushi I take off on my own to go buy some souvenirs, first at the Caesar’s Forum Shops but I didn’t find anything remotely close to what I wanted. I had to take the long and hot walk down to the Venetian to hopefully find something in their shops upstairs. I did eventually find something after walking around for 3 hours, but I can’t mention it here as I want it to be a surprise for Marlyn and I think she might actually read this blog (but then again she may not).

The shoppes at the Venetian closed at 11 pm so I had to walk back to the Imperial, where I relaxed and got my things in order for my Monday morning departure.

Day 11: FTR Cash Games

Jun 23

After the FTRSOP game, we were able to play two games of whatever we wanted, one table was 1/2 NL and the other one I was really pushing for a mixed game. After talking with Gabe and compromising, we settled on a mix of 1/2 NL, 1/2 PL Omaha Hi, and $5-$20 Spread Limit Omaha Hi/Lo.

The game gets settled and we pick seats, while I wait for the dealer to get ready and to receive my chips, I place my chip protector, ID and $100 on the table for chips and head to the bathroom. The bathroom at the Flamingo by the poker room is actually quite a decent walk away and I am probably gone a good 5 minutes from the table. No matter: I expected to be able to sit in my seat. Wrong! While I was gone Nutsinho took my seat and had my ID and protector moved off to the side and after fighting for my $100 back I was pretty pissed. I don’t go on tilt for all too much but I was really wanting to play and sense I was the one setting up this game I think I should have had my seat saved for me. At least, even if he didn’t know I was sitting there he should at least get up when I come back and not do the douche bag thing and ignore me, like he did.

That pretty much put me on life-tilt for a good 45 minutes, as that is how long it took for me to finally get a seat at that game. By that time though I got a couple beers in me and I was alright, although I still think its a douche bag move. Oh well, I’m there to have fun and why I cared so much I don’t know.

I sit down and I have Gabe to my left and an unknown FTR guy to my right, I know my edge at the NL game here is little to none. I was planning on half stacking the game so I could gamble more and push more edges but once they changed the Limit Omaha hi/low game to $5-$20 Spread I had to buy in for $200. In fact, I would have changed the NL section to ANY other poker game, even one that I had never played before because I think my edge there would have been more than playing NL with these guys.

I’m not that great of a Pot Limit Omaha player either. I played it for a while a year ago but I just couldn’t get into it. I have an idea of good starting hands but everything else I am clueless. My main reason for sitting at the table is for the Spread Limit Omaha Hi/Lo game.

If you aren’t familiar with how a Spread Limit game works, that means that on any street at any time you can bet/raise anywhere from $5 to $20 the bet out there. It makes for some interesting actions and adds an interesting element into the game, being that it is still a Limit game.

My first hand that I played was A239 double suited in EP, as I isoraise an EP limp to $25, and I get like 5 callers in the Omaha Hi/Lo game (it is a good one!). I flop a pair and my low draw and so I lead like $10 into the $100 pot. It was probably a bit donkish but heck, I wanted some value out of my hand here. Three players call and I turn the nut low as well as two pair, guaranteeing me at least some money won from this pot. I lead $10 and Nutsinho raises me to $30 and Spenda just calls behind; at this point It is very easy to put on or both of them on the nut low so reraising here would be pretty spew, given I have no idea how strong my two pair for the high is.

The river checks around and Spenda does have the nut low so him and I split that half the pot (1/4 each) and the person to win the high gets the other 1/2. Apparently Nutsinho raised on nothing but a draw with the 2nd nut low and my two pair holds. Ship the 3 Quarter pot Baby! Right off the bat I’m up like $100.

After calling some spots later in the Omaha Hi/Lo game and folding every hand of each the NL and PLO game, I finish the cash game session up $20 and leave feeling pretty happy that I ended the session positive.

Day 11: FTR Series of Poker

Jun 23

At 7 pm on Saturday night, the FTR Admins bought out 3 tables at the Flamingo poker room and hosted a 3 table tournament, so dubbed the “FTR Series of Poker.” The buy in was $50+25 with 3000 starting chips, 25/50 blinds that go up ever 20 minutes. Turbo Baby!!! The rake was high but the Admins went ahead and gave everyone their $25 rake back, which is a real nice thing to do.

In my opinion, I had pretty bad table selection. I had Renton, Tyson, Maxxscam, Massimo, DNuts, Zook, Nutsinho, Halvsame and Swiggidy to start my table; most of them online pro’s although only Maxxscam was any good at tournaments. We all did a $5 last longer bet at the table that added up to $45 in total, and the person to last the longest on the table would also get this pool.

The only hand that I played that went to the showdown until push/fold mode was when Swiggidy was minraising every hand and I picked up KJ so I flat called. The flop comes J high and he weak bets t200 on each street and I call him down–he value-towned me pretty hard with AJo. Oh well, I’m down to 2200 chips early. . . which I guess only adds to my edge as a shortstacker.

Through the rest of the tournament I only blind stole once at the 25/50 level and after that I was in push fold mode. I shoved a lot of hands once blinds got to 100/200; I went from 2300 chips up to 3600 without even seeing a flop. The FTR guys are good at poker they just overvalue marginal calling hands and undervalue shortstack play as the tournament blinds increase, which is pretty close to every 15 hands given the 20 minute blind increments.

I push/fold my way down to the final table, I have yet to see a hand stronger than ATo which I open shoved blind vs blind and took it down. The final table went super quick, and consisted of Renton, Tyson, Gabe, JeffreyJGB, Eric, Pocketfours, Alexos and myself. Once we got back to a full table I was able to card camp even more and let everyone else make mistakes.

JGB was able to build a monster stack thanks to some bad calls, one was an open limp by Gabe with A2o and he called the shove; when we got to the final table Gabe was the big stack but it wasn’t long until those chips went to JGB. Also in this time Renton and Tyson both bust and I win the $45 last longer bet: I’m now freerolling the tournament hoping to win more.

The bubble didn’t last long at all and before I knew it, the last three players were JGB (big stack), Eric and myself. Eric and I had equal chip stacks and were relatively shortstacked, especially given JGB’s 5-1 chip lead over either of us. I still haven’t seen a hand better than ATo the entire time, or a pocket pair higher than 77. JGB folds his button and I look down and see an Ace–instashove into Eric’s BB. He calls quickly and I look to see my kicker: It’s a Queen!!! That’s the nuts and when he shows A5s I hold and double up. JGB still has a 4-1 or more chip lead on me and I have a long way to go to beat him HU after Eric busted.

The HU lasted all but one hand, when I look down to see AJo in the Button and I instashove. I’m kind of hoping for a call here as I’m way ahead of his range ; he instacalls and shows AQo himself and I’m completely dominated. That’s just a standard cooler, especially HU. That said, I did not get very good cards the entire tournaments but I still managed to get 2nd place and cashed for $390. Add the last longer bet and I won $445 with a $55 buyin, netting $390 on the night as a whole.

Day 10: Party Time!

Posted by admin on Jun 22nd, 2008

Jun 22

Man, I had been waiting for this day to come for the entire time I’ve been out here in Vegas. Screw poker, its all about hanging out with poker buddies the one day a year I’m able to, and when I don’t have to pay for anything its even more fun.

When Halvsame and I got up around 11ish or so on Friday, his original plan was to go play some poker at the Venetian; that was until we got there. Basically we both lost all motivation after we got some coffee and I made up for it by practically picking his brain about a ton of poker situations for a good 3-4 hours. In the meantime, Maxxscam randomly showed up as did Fnord and Mcatdog; the poker conversations became less fun the more people showed up but I did get to meet Fnord for the first time.

Fnord was basically the only other guy I wanted to meet while out in Vegas other than Gabe. Now, everyone else was more than awesome too its just that I have the most history with Gabe and Fnord from FTR so its more personal than anything. I already had personal impressions of Fnord before meeting so it was just a matter of speaking with him face to face for the first time, although again we’ve talked in Ventrillo several times.

Time flew pretty fast while we sat there, Halvsame and I arrived at the Venetian food court probably around 1:30 and JeffreyJGB got there around 6:15 or so. We were to eat dinner with Jim (our backer) and his brother Jack at Nero Steakhouse inside Caesar’s Palace, basically one of the most baller steak houses in Las Vegas that I’m aware of (and I’m never one to turn down a free meal).

This was the first time I had met his brother, and the differences between the two were pretty striking to say the least. That said, Jack was a real nice guy and he enjoyed playing poker so we got to talk some interesting situations while eating dinner. Our dinner itself was magnificent; I ordered Lamb Chops with grilled asparagus and it was probably the most tender lamb I’ve ever had (although the seasonings were on the light side). JGB ordered a NY Strip Steak, which is a good safe choice but that’s not something I would go to a Steak House in Vegas to order; not that Lamb is either but it is something completely different than the normal beef steak. Nero’s was running a “special” in that they had Kobe Beef Fillets for a whopping $25/ounce. I’ve had a thick Kobe Fillet at Caesar’s in Indiana and that was $10/ounce and it was well worth it; whether or not it was worth $25/ounce was not a decision I really wanted to make. However, it is a choice my backer and his brother made; as they each ordered 6 ounces each. For comparison, my Lamb Chops cost about $45 pre-taxes and FWIW I would order it again every time. We traded pieces and the Kobe Steak was really good, just not as good as what I had at Caesar’s and not as ’special’ as my lamb chops were. That said, I would NEVER say anything like that to someone who just forked up $150 for a steak as that’s just retarded. The steak really was tender though, it just lacked some seasoning. After Jim paid for everyone’s dinner with wine (that must have been $500 dinner bill for the 4 of us), I waited outside of Caesar’s for the FTR party bus to come pick me up.

When I say party bus, that is exactly what I mean: its a bus load of people with loads of beer and liquor in the back. I get in and I’ve met everyone before but most people were pretty sober, with an exception to one guy Nutsinho from FTR. We were headed to downtown Las Vegas where there is a constant street party going on in between the Golden Nugget and Binion’s. Nutsinho couldn’t actually wait until we get to a casino to go pee so the bus pulled over and he went on the side of Binion’s Casino!!!! It was completely gross and I’d say 12/15 of us were just like go inside; he listened to the other 3 though and when he started going everyone couldn’t help themselves take pictures. The FTR crowd took pictures not only of Nutsinho but also of all the disgusted faces as ladies/families walked by watching the stream go down the side walk. It was both completely gross but also ridiculously hilarious. We thought we had farther to go before we got to our destination but nope; we had to get out right where he just went to the bathroom. It sounds gross now but it was funnier than hell when it happened.

We walk out into the street party and there is this massive video screen over the top of us spanning the entire block. We weren’t outside for 5 minutes until a series of Queen music videos starts to play over the top of us and it was pretty cool; except for the fact I just didn’t ‘get it.’ I mean, they start playing “we are the champions” and it really didn’t make any sense. They just played the song to just play it, which isn’t what that song was meant for. Anyway, I digress.

After a couple cliche Queen songs, the FTR group of 19 guys decides to go into the Golden Nugget to put a combined $20/person on ‘black’ at the roulette wheel. I think there were 5-6 of us that didn’t do as it was just kind of random, but the 13 that did do it doubled up once. Then after they won they let it ride and won again for some sick quadruple up on some coinflips. It was still fun tho watching $400 go on Black even if I wasn’t a part of it.

We head back to the party bus so we can head to the Palms, as we have a reservation at the Playboy Club with 8 bottles of liquor waiting for us when we get there. The name “Playboy Club” is very misleading, as there weren’t any naked girls close to it. Sure they had pole dancers and shit but what bar doesn’t have that? That said, the FTR admins paid for two tables and 8 bottles and it was completely baller; I just wished Marlyn was there so I could enjoy it to the max.

I don’t remember what bottles of liquor they purchased, other than the bottles of Johnny Walker Black and Glenfiddich 12 (Scotch!). I was done, lol. At home I probably pour myself a 1-1.5 ounce glass a night to drink, not tonight! I must have poured 3-4x that amount into a glass and started getting into the groove; that lasted a couple hours so I had to refill it at least 2 times. I had a lot of Scotch and it was awesome.

The view from the 53rd floor of the Palms was an awesome one too, as they also had a balcony with tables on you could go out on but it was just way too busy to think about that. It was just a lot of fun grooving out to the music in our booth area and watching everyone get trashed, including the admin’s.

Xianti from FTR had to puke from all the booze probably not 30 minutes from when we arrive, he told me this as he was going to the bathroom. Apparently that isn’t +EV as he was thrown out by the bouncers once he was finished and there wasn’t anyway he could get inside. We had left a couple slots open in our booth for people to come later, probably a good 3-4 more we were expecting although I don’t know if they gave an actual number. That said, Xianti was able to sneak his way back upstairs because of this fact so in the end it was all good. Just don’t throw up at the club and expect to stay for more partying!

I don’t know where the time went but I’m pretty sure everyone was having a blast. I’d say around 2:30 am or so the booze started to dry up and after I finished my last drop of Scotch I had to go to straight Coca-Cola as I was thirsty and it would help me stay awake. As I sobered up I was ready to get out of there, but I didn’t want to spend the entire cab fare at the same time. I go to the bathroom at like 3 am and by the time I get back the entire booth was empty; and I was like WTF. I later find out that everyone was at the dance floor, but basically I stayed there for a couple guys to come back and I planned on sharing a cab with Swiggidy and Renton back to the strip.

As we are waiting outside in the cab line (a good 10-15 minute wait), Swiggidy (who is pretty hammered, the only one of us 3) tries to take pictures of every single girl he possibly could; it was both funny and annoying but WTH I didn’t care. There were 3 fatties in front of us (I’m being polite here) and they started flirting with us. Renton in general doesn’t say very much and frankly I just wanted to get back to the Imperial so I could crash so Swiggidy did all the talking. Somehow they told us they were staying at The Orleans Hotel and Casino not far from the Palms and Renton wanted to head there too (for what reason I have no idea). I’m basically just doing a ‘whatever’ as I’ll get some money from the cab ride and it will be quicker this way, the only problem is that 6 of us couldn’t get in the same cab. So Renton and I followed Swiggidy and the 3 fatties to The Orleans, I dropped Renton off and I watched Swiggidy talk with the girls as my taxi drives by on my way to the Imperial.

To finish Swiggidy’s story, of the three girls, two of them wouldn’t let the one fattie have the room key so they could go upstairs and do their business. The girl tried several times apparently and on her third time Swiggidy said he ditched her and took his own cab ride back to the Venetian where he was staying. That wasn’t the end of his night but I don’t know the rest of the details. Renton apparently stayed at The Orleans playing drunking 1/2 NL and made some decent money for the next 9 hours. Why? I have no idea; that’s just how he is I guess.

I get back to the Imperial Palace around 4 am and fall asleep with my head spinning still by 4:30, completely exhausted and still soaking in all the interesting and fun things that went down Friday Night. I managed to take a picture of the bar tab that the FTR owners footed for our booth at the Palms, and with the 8 bottles and tip it totalled just under $4400 for the 20 of us. That’s right, an average of $200/person for the night and after I found that out I couldn’t believe it. I think the tip alone was like $750.

The entire night is still unbelievable and I got to live like a baller for one night out of the year. The only way it would be better if Marlyn was here to share it with me.

Day 10-11: No Poker

These two days I’m just going to spend relaxing. Friday Night was the FTR Party (report to come soon) and then Saturday is the FTR Poker Night, which will be fun too. I’m going to try and go swimming or something and get some sun today.

I’m just going to enjoy myself and if I get some poker in Sunday that’s fine and if I don’t that’s fine too. I am going to try and run some poker scenarios off of Halvsame and Gabe and maybe Sauce too to think about when I get back home. They’re all real easy to talk to and it is a good learning experience since they all play higher stakes than me.

I’m catching up on my recaps but I’ll get them done eventually. Friday’s recap is going to be awesome so don’t miss it; I also need to update my stocks as I had a pretty good week I believe.

Day 9: Everything Else

I got up around 10 or so and I decided to just stay in bed for a couple hours and not do much but watch TV and relax before my tournament started at 4 pm. I had already signed into the room a couple days earlier so I didn’t have to do anything except show Halvsame from FTR to the room, as he’s going to be my new roomate for the next few days.

He flew in from Norway a couple days earlier and this is his first time in Vegas. Housekeeping had not cleaned up the place in a couple days so it was a little sketchy in here. The first thing he said though was “Just what I was afraid of, the toilet has a lot of water in it.” Crazy Europeans, this is going to be fun lol.

He leaves around noon to go play in a tournament and I chill still in the room, I eventually get out of bed and shower and eat upstairs at the Teahouse again. I walk my way over to the Venetian and plan to kill at least 2 hours before hand. I see Xianti, Tyson and Eric (the FTR Admins) playing the tournament there and I talk to them for a bit before I head to the sports book. They have real comfortable chairs with like 30 TVs going on so that was fun.

At this point my nerves are starting to act up the more I think about the tournament but not for any real reason. At 3:00 or so I decide to go walk around the Palazzo Mall, and after nearly getting lost, make it back just in time at 4:00 for my tournament.

I was done by 6:00 pm and after I cash out I head upstairs to the Venetian Suites, which were pretty baller. They had tons of booze up there and I finally met Gabe for the first time, one of two guys I wanted to meet out here. As expected, he is real cool too. We decide to play blackjack in the room, first Xianti was the bank and then Gabe was; I managed to lose $50 but it was a blast. We have reservations for Dos Caminos in the Venetian at 9:30 for 16 people.

At this point, the 16 of us include: Me, Tyson, Eric, Xianti, Halvsame, Gabe, Swiggidy, AndyAkb (my 2nd fav guy out here besides Gabe), Alexos, Maxxscam, PocketFours, Mcatdog, Givememyleg (Carl), RxGrossman, Random Carl’s Friend and Spenda.

When we arrive we decide to get shots of Tequila, not just one but two. It was really awesome Tequila and you wouldn’t even know you were drinking it had you not been told what it was. For 15 guys it was roughly 30 shots, probably at close to $10 each; the baller dinner starts out awesome.

I intentionally sit at a table with Gabe because I think he is going to be the most fun to talk to and we do have a lot of history. Every 30 minutes or so Tyson would come over and play $20 Rochambeau (Rock Paper Scissors) and Gabe would just smoke Tyson every time, but either way it was extremely entertaining. I ordered a classic Bombay and Tonic as the waiters bring out a massive amount of chips, salsa, and guac for 15 people. The guac was good but not as good as their green salsa, which wasn’t hot at all. It must have been made from Tomatillos with lime juice and cilantro, at least I think so; it was really tangy but excellent as well (my mouth is watering just thinking about it). With the chips and salsa, Gabe is in charge of ordering appetizers and he gets a Seviche Trio with 3 different kinds of fish (1 was good, the other two were Meh) and he orders some kind of plantain platter (which were also Meh).

For my main course I ordered Kobe Beef Tacos which, by the time they got there, I was pretty stuffed. I only ate the meat inside as I was too full for anything else; I thought they were OK but not as much as I was hyped about. Gabe got the Avocado Crusted Tuna and that was pretty good, much better than my tacos.

Since we’re all a bunch of degenerative (degen for short) gamblers, Tyson says he’ll give $20 to the person who can guess the cost of the bill. He passes a paper around and I’m one of the first to choose, and I pick an even $1500. It goes around to Maxxscam (who I roomed with two years ago at the WSOP so I know him well) who does a Price is Right ‘Fuck You’ and chooses $1499. Since we were doing closest to cost there was a large margin below $1500 but not above. That said, the bill came out to $1499.57 after the tip so I won the $20, but only by a measly 7 cents. Whee!! Now I’m only down $30 on the day from gambling.

At this point in the day it was getting close to midnight and I was tired as fuck. The rest of the guys were headed to a strip club somewhere (not the Rhino) and I just went back to the Imperial Palace to crash. This was the most fun of the trip so far but Friday Night has got to be pretty awesome too.
