400 NL

Kavin came by and we played 400 NL together and dropped $300. He was playing tired and it was kind of tilting me as we dropped a buy in fairly quickly and never recovered. I felt like the decisions I were making were pretty good but the disconnect was kind of growing with some things he does at 100 NL that are probably +EV for that game but not so much here. It’s probably nothing large and if anything the plays would be break even; but I definitely feel more comfortable behind the wheel than when I did at the beginning of the month.

I was perfect 3-3 for light 3bets and I bluffed another river OOP when my draw missed, but I had a check/raise bluff fail which is the first one so far. I think I’m going to continue playing some Heads up if I find the tables at 400 NL not so great. I was talking with Kavin on possibly playing the 4 worst tables at each time available on both the sites, even if they don’t fit my selecting requirements. Right now I look for 2 fish at a table before I sit, but I might change that to 1.5 or even 1 fish, depending if I can get position on him or not. I don’t know how +EV this will be and it will increase my variance, so its something to think about as a way to get in more HH.

More Heads Up Play

I got up today around 11 and right away I started to search the tables. Kavin is going to come by tonight and grind the 400 NL games again with me so I need to go roller blade soon if I am going to go.

The tables this early weren’t that great at all so I went ahead and played some 50 NL Heads Up. For some reason I kept getting tilted when I ran bad it just didn’t make any sense. I was up 2 buy ins at one point, after being down 2 buy ins, but dropped it all back my last 150 hands or so. I finished the 1000 hand session up only 20 BB which was a bit disappointed. I lost a combined 3 buy ins with AK and AKs and it seemed like I kept getting no action with my big pairs. I’m definitely over playing my missed overcards HU.

Other than that I got paid off on a couple rivers when my opponents made real bad river raises with non-nut hands and were forced to pay off my shove. I did pull off a couple c/r bluffs on the flop but I think I need to reraise more preflop. I’m currently making it 9 BB when I should be making it 11-12 BB; I’m thinking that will help me out a lot too because my opponents seem to be calling RR widely.

So I think I’m going to go out and roller blade for a while and by the time I come back Kavin should be here and it will be time for dinner.

Burn Notice Season 2 Premiere

Well, Kiyoshi just reminded I have yet to do a Burn Notice review since I watched the episode a few days ago, so I’ll go ahead and say my thoughts now.

I’d like to start by saying that the Season 2 Premiere was not worth waiting a year for. USA built up the fact that BN was going to start a second season and the Season 1 Finale was a tense 2 hour event. I was hoping that the feeling would continue into the Premiere; I was wrong.

Don’t get me wrong the Premiere was still an excellent episode. But it was just that: another episode. I was hoping to have at least half an episode without Sam or Fiona and develop the plot more. Instead we get introduced into yet another ‘job’ for Michael to perform; that’s fine and all but it was nothing special.

In conclusion, the episode was pretty good but not as good as I thought the premiere was going to be. In correlation with the other Burn Notice episodes, the Premiere was right in line and equated to as average. But an average Burn Notice episode is still better than even the best episodes of other programs.

Well, I started off at 400 NL after lunch with Kavin and lost a couple pots real early that knocked me down. I dropped 50 bb when I got KK all in preflop vs ATs (a 70% favorite) and lost. I dropped another 70 BB when I got two overs and a flush draw vs a donk’s bottom set and I didn’t hit, although my equity was pretty poor at 25 % chance to win. In all I dropped 150 BB in between my FTP and Stars play.

My HUD was acting up on me and I wanted to reboot and just flat out stopped playing while I ran some errands. I came back to find the tables a mess at how bad the tables had gotten and, after roller blading and dinner, I saw there were only 3 fish playing between both the sites.

I still didn’t get my poker fix in though so I decided to play some 50 NL HU. I wanted to play a stake where I would feel comfortable losing 2-3 buy ins as Heads Up is a real high variance game. I didn’t even have to worry about that though as I played 220 hands and made 3.5 buy ins. I didn’t play one competent opponent the entire time and meanwhile I was having a ton of fun. I think I’ll go ahead and try to win another 2.5 buy ins before moving up to 100 NL HU.

A couple bluffs both vs same guy: He was pretty tight but turned a lot of marginal made hands into bluffs (not much relevance in these hands)

Hand 1: Was the first and only time I 3bet him.

Hand 2: The board was too perfect for me to not check/raise, this was also one of the first times he open raised and he had been folding a lot preflop.
