I’ve been up for a couple hours now and I haven’t played any poker yet. I’ve been scanning the tables waiting for good ones to line up but right now there is nothing that great going on at FTP. I’ve had my table selector open for almost 3 hours now although maybe not the closest eye on the tables.
I think I might get my Grinderschool videos out of the way for the next two weeks and watch last night’s episode of Burn Notice which has made its way up on Hulu.
After that I don’t know quite yet, maybe work on my HU game a little bit but if I find some good tables I’ll be sure to sit down on those as well.
I got back from Anna’s last night around 11:30ish or so and I head into my normal late night TV routine. I switch it back and forth between Will and Grace, Sportscenter, Scrubs and Sex and the City; when I get bored I change the channel.
I head back upstairs at around 1 am or so and get ready for bed; this is usually the time for my Highlander watching and I was getting ready to do so when I saw Adil online. He was playing a guy 100 NL HU and I didn’t mind ghosting; as he’s a good HU player and its a good way to learn.
Now I’m going to brag a little bit, but when I started watching him he was down 3 buy ins to the guy, and within an hour he was up 1 buy ins (a complete 4 buy in turn around). I’m not going to take all the credit, just the last 2 buy ins or so when he got his opponent to bluff the turn 200 BB deep for stacks with nothing but J high.
I went to bed pretty close after that feeling just as good myself as it would be had I been the person winning the money. I like knowing my reads are good and the fact I can play good even in a game I’ve never played before (I’ve yet to play any cash HU, even though I’ve ghosted for several hours).
I didn’t get to watch Highlander last night, but its not like I care that much but it is an entertaining show.
Last night after dinner, Anna, Josh and myself watched Last Comic Standing; I’ve never been a big fan of the show (at first it was Jay Mohr) and last night confirmed another reason why. They picked the 12 finalist comedians the week before and this time they all competed in separate contests and the comedians vote off who they don’t like.
The reason I don’t like the way this is run, is that the public doesn’t get a chance to vote as a whole on who the favorite comedian is but just the other finalists. The least favorite person then chooses 2 other comedians to ‘face off’ against and then they perform in front of a live audience. Of those 3, only 1 comedian returns; which in my opinion is pretty retarded.
I just don’t like the idea that comedians can have a ‘title’ of the best comedian when the entire audience doesn’t get to voice their opinion. Last night, a two-person group called ‘God’s Pottery‘ (GP) got booted off, when in my opinion they were the most original of ANY of the other comedians. They had original material and frankly, were a fresh face compared to the other stale comedians. It turns more into a popularity contest between the 12 comedians and not based on what truly matters: originality, creativity and just being funny.
When the group of 12 were supposed to ‘battle’ each other in ‘Your Mama’ jokes, everyone went the negative route except GP. I found it hilarious that GP started telling ‘Your Mama’ compliments, and so did the guest judges too (I didn’t even know Jamie Kennedy was still alive). They went on to the next round and won that one too but they couldn’t hold out in the finale for ‘immunity’ (another reality TV invention that I hate). Frankly, they had a chance as their first joke in the finale vs the Brit was pretty good, but they lost their creativity in the last two jokes and that is what lost the competition (and ultimately the show) for them.
When they came on to ‘battle’ at the end they sang a song, which is going to be hit or miss with the audience. I thought GP did better than the other two, but the one lady that moved on wasn’t bad either; it turns out that they got the lowest vote total out of the three. I wonder had the viewing public at home had a chance to vote for their favorite if they would have voted them off too but I don’t know.
Had God’s Pottery won then I might actually have watched another episode of Last Comic Standing but right now I have no one to root for and don’t care.
I got to Anna’s right after 5 pm or so and we went to dinner at 5:30. We decided to get some Mexican food at a place in downtown Arlington Heights called Fuego. Right at this time is a good time to go because it wasn’t very busy, another hour though and it would have been packed.
When we first arrive, there is a huge basket of fresh tortilla chips with some salsa; I’d have to admit it was some of the best salsa I’ve ever had. I’d go there just to eat that salsa and nothing else. Meanwhile, a lady behind us has a Guac Cart where she goes around and makes fresh Guacamole right at the table. I found the Guac lacked a little lime and salt but hey, you can’t beat fresh Guac!
I also ordered a Margarita, since Josh and Anna were going to get mixed drinks I wasn’t going to be left out! I had some kind of Melon Margarita, and I am not going to lie it was pretty melony (but refreshing too) and I’d probably order it again.
The service did take quite a while to get around to take our food order, and then again to bring us the food. Meanwhile, the 3 of us have almost filled up on the Chips, Salsa and Guac and we’ve pretty much had to force ourselves to stop because of how much we’ve eaten already. Apparently we get some chicken soup with our meal (wtf??) that also came with a slice of lime. Josh went ahead and squeezed the lime into the quite blan soup (it couldn’t make it taste worse) and surprisingly it tasted really good/interesting. I’m going to have to start putting in more limes into my soups more to see how they come out lmao.
So we FINALLY get to order our food and I have never had Mole before, although Marlyn has been telling me for months to make it. I barely know what it is! Anyway, I order the Mole Amarillo made with Pork Chops; it comes with rice and beans (obv) and some plantains.
Maybe it was the length of time the food took to get to our table, but the Pork was widely overcooked and the plantains super dry. I know how good Pork should be cooked and this was not it at all! A simple meat thermometer would make all the difference. I only ate 1 of the 2 pork chops and the plantains and took the rest home.
At first I was real impressed with Fuego, as the salsa was pretty kick ass and the Guac lady was impressing. Everything beyond that though went completely downhill into the mess that usually is eat-out Mexican Food.
