Poker video nap

So, you know what’s weird? Listening to a poker video while you’re nodding off sleeping. I was taking a bath today (because my mom’s place has no shower) while watching a poker video and I started to fall asleep.

It was so weird because I could hear the voice over while I slept and my dreams would go off of what he was saying, except for the fact they weren’t poker related. I would wake back up again when something he said started to make little sense to what was actually going on in my dream.

It must have happened a good 3-4 times until I just decided to get out and get on with my day. This was while all the virus stuff was going down too but I don’t know what happened to the rest of my day. I REALLY need to start playing poker again, and I’m running out of things to do to avoid playing. I watched my first episode of Highlander last night on Hulu and that was pretty good.

Tonight I’m just going to relax some more and try to not get bored watching the television after dinner. Maybe I’ll do some writing but we’ll see.

My Computer is in a House of Pain

My laptop seems to get progressively worse as each day passes. While I was at Kiyoshi’s I was unable to shut it down, he was unable to access the Drudge Report and frankly, I have to click each link 3 times before it loads. I think I have a virus.

I’ve been running the 2006 Version of Norton AntiVirus on my computer and it hasn’t updated its database in over a year. I’m aware of how bad this is I just was always too busy to hunker down and fix it. Not anymore!

This morning I downloaded AVG, and with using their free virus scanner I’m hoping things get back on track. Well, it wasn’t 5 minutes later after I installed it that I tried to remove an infected file and I get the blue screen of death.

My computer reboots and I was no longer able to search the internet! For some reason Gchat was working so that helped me out somewhat, but as for browsing and everything I couldn’t do a single thing. This went on for a good 2 hours until I started to mess with their settings. I had suspicions it was 1 and/or 2 of the following: Firewall or Web Shield.

I first tried to disable Web Shield but that did nothing; I then reinitialized Web Shield and disabled the firewall. Nothing again. I then decided to disable both the Web Shield and Firewall and, after a few minutes, bingo! I have my internet back. I believe it was the Web Shield and the suspicions were correct after I reinitialized the Firewall; I don’t think I disabled the Web Shield fully the first time.

Meanwhile, I’ve been scanning my computer for viruses using the virus scanner. After 2.5 hours and over 1 million objects scanned on my computer, it has found 24 affected files and its still going. I have no idea when it is going to stop but I’m not going to mess with it. Hopefully after it finishes I’ll have my laptop back, as my last option is to reinstall Windows XP and I hope I don’t have to back up everything to do that.

20 minutes later…

Well, the virus scanner finished finally and I was able to update the databases; AVG brought up a pop up that listed several affected files and so I started to go through clean up. All of a sudden explorer crashes and my computer goes into crawl mode; luckily I was smart enough to save this post first before clicking on anything.

The first pop up had maybe 8 files on it and after each file I had to tell it to get rid of it; and when my computer is going super slow it got quite annoying. I didn’t give up and when the first 8 files were done, another pop up came up and it had 65 files on it! You can start to see signs of life in the computer, like we’re getting somewhere.

Every couple files I had it delete little things would start to come back. First it was the Windows tool bar, then it was my other programs I was running and finally the desktop icons! I can’t be far now from completion. I received a pop saying that the rest of the files couldn’t be found and alas, I have my laptop back.

After some preliminary tests, mainly drudge report and hallmark.com which both took 30 minutes to load the last time I checked, those sites loaded damn near instantaneous. I know it may sound too good to be true but I think my computer might be fixed! AVG is my savior!

I will keep you updated on my laptop pain if it does in fact continue. I should probably reboot and see how that works out for me but if I have any more trouble I’ll let everyone know. I may actually be able to play poker today!

I’ve been here 12 hours and I’m already annoyed

I’m annoyed not at my mom or her house but more so at the fact I still can’t get my phone charged. I saw my brother late last night and I thought I was saved when I saw his new Samsung Sync; I have the older A707 model but either way they both use the same style of charger.

The phone requires a flat and rather small charger, thereby removing all attempts to use an universal charger. Fortunately for me his Sync uses the same style as mine and he said that today I could use it while he’s at work.

After searching in his room for 5 minutes (it was cleaner than I expected) I eventually found what I was looking for. I grabbed my phone and attempted to plug it in. . . fail! Apparently, his Sync uses a charger 1 millimeter larger than mine; why the fuck don’t they just use a standard charger?

This brings back to another debate: they’ve had cell phones now in mainstream society for over 10 years now. How is it that the battery makers don’t have a standard yet? How about one maker of cell phone uses a standard charger? You would think that in the end it would save them money, but I digress.

So in the end I still don’t have any charge on my cell phone; I guess I’m going to have to find someone out there with the EXACT same model as me in order to get my phone charged. The chances of that happening are pretty slim and I’m just going to have to wait a while.
